I try to find the best blend of portability, shootability, and comfort, given the task at hand. ![]() rifle would bother me in the least, for the vast majority of our kind of hunting.Įssentially, I try to tailor the rifle’s weight to the application, instead of going to one end of the spectrum or the other. And as far as hunting whitetail in Texas, I seriously doubt a 20 lb. I like the weight as it factors into steadiness and recoil absorption. I don’t find a few extra pounds to be a burden, even on my steep country elk hunts, and it’s not because I’m in great shape, I assure you. A heavy rifle has never bothered me, for any other reason. Not for carrying, but for quick, offhand shots. ![]() ![]() What’s your preference for a given hunt, and why? Some even prefer heavier rifles for stability, for the shot. Seems that many place a high priority on a rifle being lightweight.
